Hospitality Apprentice of the Year 2023
The HIT Heroes Hospitality Apprentice of the Year Award recognises the skills and expertise of apprentices in front of house roles or essential ‘behind the scenes’ roles such as housekeepers or cleaners.
It is open to those working in hospitality organisations including bars, restaurants, cafés, conference centres, banqueting venues, hotels and contract caterers.
Judges will be looking for examples of how apprentices have implemented their learning to excel in business, people and customer relations skills. They’ll want to see how the apprentice has applied their learning to their role, a high level of responsibility and a passion for exceeding customer expectations.
Open to apprentices on the following programmes:
- Hospitality Team Member – Concierge, Reception, Conference and Events, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Service, Alcoholic Beverage Service and Barista Routes
Chef Apprentice of the Year 2023
The HIT Heroes Chef Apprentice of the Year Award celebrates the skills, passion and expertise of our industry’s budding chefs.
Judges will be looking for examples of how chef apprentices have applied their learning and skills development to enhance their role and place of work. Highly methodical organisational skills, energy, accuracy, attention to detail and an awareness of sustainability will all be considered.
Open to apprentices on the following programmes:
- Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship
- Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Chef de Partie Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Senior Production Chef Apprenticeship
- Level 4 Senior Culinary Chef Apprenticeship
Retail Apprentice of the Year 2023
The HIT Heroes Retail Apprentice of the Year Award celebrates emerging talent in the world of retail. This award highlights apprentices who are passionate about delivering a quality service and are advocates for apprenticeship training to further a career in retail.
This award also showcases individuals who act as ambassadors for apprenticeships as a route into a rewarding career.
Judges will be looking for individuals who demonstrate personal drive and go above and beyond to exceed customer expectations. They’ll be looking for apprentices with excellent people skills who understand the importance of their role and are a role model to others.
They’ll also want to see how the apprentice has applied their learning to their role and achieved a high level of responsibility.

- Level 2 Retailer Apprenticeship
Brewer Apprentice of the Year 2023
The HIT Heroes Brewer Apprentice of the Year Award celebrates emerging talent in the world of brewing. This award highlights apprentices who are passionate about making their mark on the brewing world and are advocates for apprenticeship training to further a career in their sector.
Judges will be looking for examples of how brewer apprentices have applied their learning and skills development to enhance their role and place of work. Highly methodical organisational skills, energy, accuracy, attention to detail and an awareness of sustainability will all be considered.
Open to apprentices on the following programme:
- Level 4 Brewer Apprenticeship
Leadership Apprentice of the Year 2023
The HIT Heroes Leadership Apprentice of the Year Award champions the team leaders, managers and supervisors who go above and beyond to deliver exceptional customer service.
Judges will be looking for a team player who delivers top-quality customer service under pressure, someone who can think on their feet and take the initiative, and who always has the customer’s needs at heart.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate how they’ve applied their learning from their apprenticeship into their job role to achieve a high level of responsibility and make a positive impact. They must also show how they have implemented their learning to meet brand standards and promote the values of their business.

- Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Retail Team Leader Apprenticeship
- Level 4 Retail Manager Apprenticeship
- Level 4 Hospitality Manager Apprenticeship
- Level 5 Operations / Departmental Manager Apprenticeship
HIT Hero of the Year 2023
This special award is chosen by the judges and is not open to nominations.
Chosen from the winners of the apprentice and employer categories, this award goes to the apprentice or employer who has demonstrated unrivalled passion for apprenticeships.
It could be an apprentice who has shown exceptional promise in developing their skills to make their chosen career a success or an employer who has done more than any other to put apprenticeships at the centre of their business.
Whatever the case, judges will be looking for an apprentice or employer who they consider to be this year’s rising star!
